The Oxshott Village Trust

The History

In 1944 a public meeting was held in Oxshott in response to the wishes of the whole community to express their gratitude to those who were serving in the Second World War. At that meeting a resolution was passed to establish a Trust Fund to build a Village Centre for the "benefit of the inhabitants of Oxshott".

Building restrictions and a lack of funds in the immediate aftermath of the war delayed the opening of the Centre until 1962. In 1979 a side extension was added to enable the local doctors to open the still existing Oxshott Medical Practice.

A Management Committee consisting of elected members, representatives of local organisations and the three trustees of the Oxshott Village Trust Fund was appointed to run the centre for the promotion of social, recreational, and cultural activities.

The Oxshott Village Centre sits on land owned by the Crown Estate who granted a 97-year lease to the OVT in 1963. The lease is currently being negotiated to extend to a 99-year lease in readiness for the proposed new medical centre.

Today -  Oxshott Village Trust CIO

The Trust has been restructured as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) – a corporate entity governed by the Charity Commission. Our objective as set out in its constitution is “to improve the lives of residents in Oxshott" and anyone normally residing in Oxshott and over the age of 18 can be a member of the Trust, attend meetings and vote on important issues concerning the Trust.

On 19th December 2024 an election with 15 volunteer candidates was held to vote for 8 CIO Trustees.

Over 248 Oxshott residents placed 1,300+ votes resulting in the newly elected CIO committee of 8 Trustees:

·       Mike Anthony
·       Michael Carpenter
·       Hilary Dyson
·       Stuart Knee
·       Geoff Moyle
·       David Reeves
·       Suzie Staunton
·       David Wiliams

The Oxshott Trust is still run on a voluntary basis & manages the estate including the Village Halls & doctors’ surgery as well as the surrounding land. As the Trustees have general control and management of the administration of the Trust Fund, its members are regarded as 'charity trustees' for the purposes of charities legislation.

The Oxshott Village Trust (OVT)was registered by the Charity Commission on 16th October 2024.

Who we benefit

The Oxshott Village Trust exists purely for the benefit of Oxshott residents for social & medical services. The Trustees run the maintenance & lettings for the Halls, the land & the medical practice.

Funds from the rental of the Halls, carpark licences and Doctors surgery provide a solid income enabling the OVT to fund various local activities Thus, fulfilling our objective “to improve the lives of residents in Oxshott"

The Oxshott Trust is not only responsible for the day-to day management of the Village centre but also keen to invest in the local community. Our current focus is to build a new medical surgery for the Oxshott Medical Practice. This exciting project involves working with our valued Partners to move the project to a reality.
The Crown Estate, Elmbridge Borough Council, the Oxshott Medical Practice and the Trust collaborating towards one goal – a brand-new Surgery for Oxshott.

There will be several other projects that we will consider in the future including the future use of the old surgery once the new build is completed.

The Transition from the Oxshott Trust Fund to the Oxshott Village Trust CIO

After the successful formation of the Oxshott Village Trust CIO – voted by residents in December 2024, we are now preparing the next steps.
We require an amendment to the Crown Estate Lease followed by the transfer of assets from the Oxshott Village Trust Fund to the new CIO.

To action this, the Oxshott Trust Fund management committee are required to hold an AGM so a vote can be taken by Oxshott residents to permit the amendments to be made.
The AGM will be held in the Oxshott Small Hall on at 7:30pm on Wednesday September 24th, 2025.

Please find below the documents relating to this meeting including AGM Notice & Agenda.
