New Medical Practice
Why is a New Surgery Required?
The existing Surgery was built in 1979 when the number of patients was under 4,000. Since 1979 the number of residents in Oxshott has more than doubled and is still growing. The expected number of patients for the surgery in 2025 is over 8,500.
The current building is only 253 sqm and cannot cope with the current capacity & patient throughput. Some medical services have been moved to overflow facilities more remote from the Oxshott village. The provision of additional services such as Community social care, medical health services or diagnostic facilities have been curtailed.
The building has not been upgraded since the original build and is not fit for the purpose of providing the NHS medical services and secondary care required today & in the future.
There is little capacity to upgrade to the technology required & expected of a modern practice.
What is Proposed for the New Surgery
The Oxshott Village Trust is proposing a new building that is specifically designed & built for a modern medical practice. This has entailed working closely with Our partner- Clague Architects to design a building that is aesthetically pleasing as well as complying with the many rules and regulations that a modern surgery requires.
The building will be two stories totalling 560 sqm on a footprint of 280 sqm. Effectively over twice the size of the current facility.
There will be consulting & treatment rooms to cater for 10,000 patients with the technology infrastructure installed to cater for modern patient treatment needs.
The building will be aesthetically pleasing & in keeping with the surrounding buildings. There will be the provision of 20 dedicated parking spaces for patient & medical staff use.
Of utmost importance will be the environmentally compliant build so that net zero & BREEAM excellence will be achieved.

Our Partners
The Crown Estate
Owns the freehold of the village centre with the Trust holding a lease, now with 37 years remaining. The Trust is now negotiating the details of a new 99-year lease which the Crown will grant to the Trust on completion of the new surgery. The Crown are also providing substantial funds alongside the Trust’s funds to build the surgery.
Elmbridge Borough Council
As you will have seen our planning application for the new surgery was submitted in December (Reference 2024/2906) and we are pleased to report that we have received wonderful encouragement from the Oxshott community. We are hopeful that we will receive an approval decision by the end of May.
Elmbridge Borough Council are providing fantastic support for the project, and we are delighted to report that a very substantial Community Infrastructure grant has been approved by the Council.
Oxshott Medical Practice
Working closely with the Doctors and their staff, the design of the new surgery has been worked up by the Architects – Clagues. This design ensures that the new building is not only fit for purpose but is also future proofed and meets the best current standards of sustainability. In addition, the Trust, its advisors and OMP have worked closely to complete the highly detailed and complex Project Initiation Document (PID) which is critical to the rental negotiations with the NHS which are ongoing.
The OMP will continue to work from the existing surgery until the new building is completed. Once the Doctors are established in the new building, we will need to find a new use or uses for the old surgery building and the funds to refurbish it. We welcome any suggestions and in the very near future we will initiate a formal campaign to determine which use the residents of Oxshott would like to see there.
Current Status
Planning for the new surgery has been submitted to Elmbridge Borough Council and we expect approval imminently.
We are working with our Partners to move to the next stages of the development.
